IWI (Incident Within an Incident) Training through Frontline Response is a course specifically developed for wildland firefighters to prepare to aid an injured firefighter while working the fireline. It includes classroom and field scenario exercises. Hours and prices vary depending on the level of instruction your agency is looking for. It is recommended that participants have prior medical experience, the ideal minimum being AHA Heartsaver Total and ACS Stop the Bleed.

Topics covered include:

  • Implementation of an IWI within the Incident Command System.
  • Use of the 8-Line.
  • Patient assessment and treatment.
  • Patient extraction. Extraction techniques include movement by foot, vehicle, and helicopter with Landing Zone considerations.
  • Students will work together as a team to problem solve various obstacles.
  • Some classes may have the option to work with medical aircraft to complete a full training scenario.
